And bill says watch the drink when you're alone But he always keeps his stash in a ziploc bag with his menthols and his altoids Oh god Four shots of whiskey And a bottle of coke Boots coat train bar And I'm still alone and i smoke like a mad woman a sad woman through winter, snow and hurricane for all my troubles you'd think I'd know the answer to this colossal shame Oh god 13 stops to inwood on the A train I'm making 5am phone calls to a vacant boy with his blue eyes and his cocaine Oh god And I never met his mother No he never took me home Wouldn't kiss me in the mornings Just as cold as a stone Pull the trigger I play Russian roulette And I follow him down to his death wish And I watch him scrounge And I watch him shake And I watch him crawl And I watch him beg Oh god Reply

about

Mona is a collection of character portraits, “Christine,” about a washed-up former model encountered at a bar, “String Bean,” inspired by an unknown anorexic teenage pop star, & “Oh God” delving into the depths of addiction, and the of shame it creates. In general, the lyrical repertoire hangs elusively simple words around cryptic stories of heartbreak, longing, and relationships. Musically, Orly Bendavid & her band :The Mona Dahls knit the lyricism of the violin in conversation with the tender and terse cadences of Orly’s own voice. Their music at once evokes the sounds of Parisian cabaret, the Appalachian hill country, and the Middle East.
